ARTHUR, THE WONDER DOG
Adventure racing is one of the toughest sports in the world, and this amazing dog decided to tag along for the adventure through the Ecuadorian jungle with a Swedish Racing Team – Peak Performance. The team was faced with the task of running, biking and kayaking through dense jungles and mountainous terrain for 430 miles (692 km). Arthur followed the team through mud, over hills, and down rivers. He fought like a regular team member. A team that started as four, became five.
It all started when the team gathered their bearings while eating a meal before a dangerous 20-mile hike through the Ecuadorian Rainforest.
As the team ate they noticed a scruffy looking stray dog staring at them. Thinking nothing of it, they threw the dog a meatball. (Those Swedes!) That’s all it took for them to make a new friend. When the team began to pack up, the dog followed them and never stopped.
This is the Story of Arthur, the Wonder Dog.
Arthur never left their side.
The final leg of the race was a 36 mile kayak ride down a dangerous river. Race organizers warned the team against taking Arthur for safety reasons. The team agreed and tried to leave Arthur behind.
Arthur had different plans. He swam alongside the boat until they let him in.
Arthur quickly became a fan favorite.
Once the race ended, the team decided they couldn’t leave Arthur behind and filed to adopt the dog and bring him back to Sweden. Luckily for all involved, it was approved. Arthur now lives with his new family and looks forward to many more adventures.
